Overview
In this Workshop you will experience some of the most amazing and raw coast you have ever experienced. Millions of years have formed this incredible coastline and when you see it for the first time, you will know you’re standing in front of something special. On top of that, tis the late season for Astrophotography and it rises early in the evening making it possible to capture the gorgeous Oregon Coast under the Stars and the Milky Way galaxy. We are definitely in on that! On the southern part of our adventure, we’ll be near several Redwood forests. If fog is on the menu for the day, we are there.
We will take you to the lesser known areas of the coast, along with some that have made a standing name for themselves because they are so photogenic. The Heceta Lighthouse and Thors Well are good examples. We will show you how to capture water movement that swirls around these breathtaking formations so that your images have purpose, flow and structure. We dive deep in to grand landscape compositional techniques as well mid range and more intimate scenes. We’ll show you how to “see” compositionally and make sense of more complex scenes that will take your visioning to the next level, helping you to create beautiful images out of chaos. The Oregon Coast is the perfect place to fine tune your skills as an aspiring photographer, as well as advanced. Imagine yourself in an epic land of towering rocky cliffs, crashing waves and surreal foggy light and it will be.
You’ll walk among rugged arches and pebble strewn beaches, with magnificent rock formations and sea drift all around. We’ll take time to check out tidal pools where sea anemones and colorful starfish await the incoming tide. The Oregon Coast is a truly majestic place. Let us share our vision of great Oregon with you!

About this Workshop
Terrain
Hikes on the coast can be easy to difficult and range from beach front to coastal woodland trails. It is best to be prepared with waterproof hiking boots. In places rocks will be wet and slick. For work in the surf, high rubber boots or wet wading boots with neoprene socks work very well. Waders can be helpful if you choose to get deeper in the surf, but can be cumbersome to carry around.
Experience
Aspiring - Advanced. Some trail experience and navigating slick, wet rocks will be helpful.
Group Size
6 people. We keep the group size small so that everyone gets plenty of shoot time at all locations without feeling rushed or smothered. Safety is a primary consideration also.
Weather
The weather on the coast of Oregon can be very inviting and it can also hit some extremes. We will be monitoring the weather very closely prior to and during the Workshop. In almost all cases, the Workshop will go forward. We love good stormy weather and fleeting light, but will never put our guests in any type of situation that would be life threatening. We chose September to take advantage of the best photography conditions. The nights and early mornings can be quite cool. September can be a beautiful mix of excellent photography conditions and can be a bit breezy at times. Be prepared for anything and use our Pack list to help plan your trip.
Covid 19
We require our guides to be masked at any time we are unable to be at a 6’ proximity, unless you give the ok. Some restaurants may require masking. We will have hand sanitizer available throughout the workshop. Carpooling is recommend as long as you accept the risk. Our staff is fully vaccinated and we will maintain the guidelines that the CDC issues regarding indoor and group masking. We will also adhere to any local guidelines and rules.
