Brevard is known throughout the region for its many incredible waterfalls. They call this place Waterfall County for a good reason! :). Ranging from grand, thunderous waterfalls to intimate cascades. It almost seems that the entire area is just pulsing with beautiful mountain streams, and we have selected some of our very favorites for you to explore and photograph.

We have timed this Workshop during the height of the Mountain Laurel and Rose Bay rhododendron blooms. These are the types of foliage found among these many waterfalls and you’re sure to have a treat in store, as many will be framed perfectly with these seasonal blooms.

Master Waterfall Landscape Photography with Expert Guidance

Our Waterfalls Photography Workshop is designed to help you elevate your skills in waterfall landscape photography. Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you'll learn the techniques, settings, and compositions required to capture the essence of these majestic waterfalls. Whether you're a seasoned photographer or just starting out, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn from the best in the field.

Immerse Yourself in the World of Waterfall Nature PhotographY

Not only will you hone your skills in waterfall landscape photography, but you'll also be introduced to the world of waterfall nature photography. Our workshop will provide you with the tools and knowledge to beautifully capture the surrounding flora and fauna, as well as the delicate interplay of light and water. Your photographs will tell the story of the waterfalls and their surrounding ecosystems, creating a stunning visual narrative.

Waterfalls are the perfect place to practice your long exposure skills. We don’t just mean making the water soft and silky. Rather, learn to use your filter systems to slow the shutter just enough to show the detail and energy in the water. Creating leading lines and shapes to give your images that something extra they have been missing. All water flows are different and we’ll share our knowledge about how we find and create those fleeting moments that make your image something special.

In the classroom part of this workshop, we’ll show you how to exposed properly for the waterfall, showing detail in all parts of the water, from brightest to the darkest. We’ll also share retouching techniques that will ensure you get home with all of the appropriate exposures to blend images creating a stunning piece of artwork. We think you will agree that a compelling composition, along with the right elements and water speed can truly set your images apart from the rest.

We will also share all of the techniques that we use to finalize our waterfall images. Getting right elements happening in the frame is very important visually within the frame. But, equally important is how you “treat” the image in post production. Also known as the mood or feeling you get from an image. There are many ways to approach this and some are rather lengthy. We will show you how to finalize your image in Adobe Lightroom for print. And for those interested in learning about the more artistic approach, we will share a full edit on some of the images we captured during the Workshop.

We will always give you the freedom to explore and practice on your own, and we will always be nearby to lend a helping hand. Some of the skills that we will be working on are exposure and how to capture you image in one photograph. And why, sometimes others are needed to freeze moving plants. We will also share the power of the circular polarizer and ND filters. When to use them and why.

During our travels in this Workshop, we will be visiting the Pisgah National Forest, The Blue Ridge Escarpment, Panthertown Valley, the Cullasaja Gorge and the Nantahala National Forest.

We hope you can join us for this amazing experience in the NC/SC backcountry. This is a favorite and there is a reason this is the longest-standing photography workshop we offer. This a favorite among many and does not matter whether you are just starting your journey in photography, or are a seasoned veteran. You can always find something new and interesting at a waterfall. “They are never the same twice.”
