The Western NC Waterfalls Workshop kicked off at an absolute jaw dropper of a waterfall on Friday evening. A short drive and walk up the river brought our guests to one of the most beautiful waterfalls that I have ever seen. This waterfall had everything. Cascades, 65 foot drop, chutes, spray, and more. We all were enarmored with the late afternoon and evening light and worked the falls over. For more details about our first day look at Day 1.
Day 2 we got up really early and headed South from Brevard to Schoolhouse Falls in the Panthertown area. We had a really gorgeous hike in and came out on the gushing falls into the wide pool.
We spent a good while enjoying this spot before making our way back out and off to Courthouse Falls.
Driving up the dirt road to Courthouse Falls was beautiful and we caught glimpses of the winding stream as it cascaded over boulders laced with the vibrant green moss. The road, however, was in very poor condition. Heading to this fall was a last minute decision based on the clear skies and we were very glad to get it in because the road will be closed for the entire summer for repair the Monday following the workshop. We only had about an hour of shade left before the sun illuminated sections of the falls which really challenged our group.
We finished up a fantastic morning of shooting and then made our way back to the hotel for much needed refuelling before settling in for our afternoon classroom session. We did some basic work with Lightroom before working some advanced digital blending and image review. It was a very engaging session and only person fell asleep. 🙂
After a quick dinner we were back on the waterfall hunt and made our way into the Pisgah National Forest to Looking Glass Falls (the most iconic fall in the area). Apart from a few youngsters smoking something suspicious we had the place to ourselves and we took full advantage of the excellent conditions. The adventurous got even more adventurous and almost went completely swimming.
After some much needed sleep we met early and headed to Dupont State Park. There are 3 waterfalls in close proximity and a fantastic way to finish a wonderful weekend.
