What to expect:
A two day adventure shooting in the wee hours. Participants in this Workshop will become night owls for a few days as we explore hidden beauty of the night sky. The first night we will explore the hidden locations along the Blue Ridge. A series of short hikes will take us to a variety of subjects, including water, rock outcroppings and outstanding views. You will also learn how to add depth to your night images by light painting and adding your own subjects. We’re all about story telling and we’ll show you how to add this important element of “vision” to your images. The second night will start with a drive up to Carver’s Gap at Roan Mountain State Park. At this elevation of 6000′, the Milky Way glows in the night sky. Layers of mountains, grassy fields, boulders and evergreens await you! This is fun place to shoot, but can’t be daunting because it is so vast. We’ll show you the secret spots that have taken us years to find. Here we’ll set up a day camp and after photographing sunset, we have a short field instruction while we wait for the Milky Way to rise. Once it’s up, it’s on for as long as you can shoot! We’ll have a blast exploring the many different locations in this grassy terrain along the Appalachian Trail. The camp will stay active for photo ops and general R&R while we are there. This is an incredibly fun night of safe exploration, commeradary and image making!
