Why should I take a Mountains to Sea Photography Workshop?
We're going to show you how to capture amazing images! We're also going to guide you to some of our favorite locations and put you on the very best spots, during the best possible times. While we're there, we will show you the techniques we use to capture high dynamic range in challenging light conditions. Afterwards, in the classroom session, we'll lead you step by step on how we process images. We will also work with you one on one showing you how to retouch the images you captured that morning. As with anything in life, practice makes perfect, but we promise when you leave our workshop, you will have the tools needed to take your image capture and post processing to the next level.
Do I need professional gear?
No. Though camera systems are different, the basic concepts of photography are the same. We'll teach you how to utilize your camera system to it's maximum potential and show you the benefits that can be gained when you choose to upgrade your equipment. You will, however, need a camera, a sturdy tripod and a wide angle or a medium range zoom lens. Other important equipment is listed in each Workshop Package.
Does the Workshop include lodging?
The Workshops do not include lodging at this time. However, whenever possible, we offer block discounts at recommended hotels. We also offer suggestions on our site that will help you to make a selection that will be easily accessible to our destinations.
Are meals provided?
Meals are your own responsibility. During our classroom session on Saturday, we will provide light snacks, candy and drinks. You will need to bring water and snacks for the "Location" photo shoots.
Do you provide transportation?
Due to Park permits and insurance regulations, we are not allowed to provide group transportation. We do discuss transportation prior to each destination and carpooling is encouraged.
What if the weather is bad?
We love it when the weather is bad and will plan on going out, unless conditions are dangerous in any way. In which case, we will reschedule the Workshop ahead of time. If the forecast is calling for rain, please plan ahead and bring suitable rain gear for yourself and your equipment.
How should I dress?
You should plan on wearing comfortable clothing. Keep in mind that almost all of our photo adventures include hiking. Clothes that wick moisture are suggested(cottons do not wick). If you are not sure, please feel free to contact either instructor for suggestions or send us an e-mail. A trip to your local Outdoor Retailer can be a worthwhile stop while planning your trip.
Can we bring a spouse or other non-photographer?
Of course you can! However, because we share in the responsibility and the liability, we charge 50% of the normal registration per additional person. In fairness to our other paid participants, we limit their participation to the location shoots only and not classroom instruction.
What if someone is injured on a photo shoot?
We try to take every precaution, but things do happen. Both instructors are certified in CPR and First Aid. The immediate goal in an emergency is to stabilize the patient and apply first aid if needed. If the injury is life threatening, the decision will then be made to go for help or transport the patient to the closest Hospital for care.
I have an existing injury, can I still participate?
Ultimately, this will be your call based on your restrictions. The Workshops do include hiking that can vary from 1/4 mile, up to a mile. The beach terrain is more forgiving, but the mountain terrain can be rocky and steep. We will make every effort to ensure that you have opportunities to learn about your camera and it's functions. If you are not sure you will be able to participate in the hiking segments, we are willing to discuss a discounted rate for you. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs and we will do our very best to accomodate you.
